Media Principles
The Essex Drug & Alcohol Partnership need to ensure that a clear and consistent message about substance misuse is being portrayed to the media, stakeholders and communities of Essex.
Our communications compete in a crowded media space, often competing against contradictory and misleading messages week in week out from national, regional and local media.
This highlights the importance of having a process in place to ensure that we portray the correct message whilst also ensuring the message delivered is consistent and representative of all partners.
What to do if you are contacted by the media in relation to a substance misuse related subject?
You may be asked by the media to provide a comment or even asked to conduct an interview. If any of our commissioned services or partners are contacted by the media please contact the EDAAT Communications lead on 01245 434651 so that we can ensure the right spokesperson provides the statement or interview and to portray a consistent message across the partnership.
What to do if you have a story you want to publicise?
Through regularly providing our media partners with success stories and substance misuse related information and advice we can engage with the communities of Essex to try and increase public confidence in the work we are doing to tackle substance misuse and also to educate communities about substance misuse and its related issues and harms.
Commissioned services or partners with a substance misuse related news worthy story that they would like to publicise please contact the EDAAT communication lead on 01245 434651 who will help compile a media release and advise on any issues to consider before issuing, for example political sensitivity should be considered in light of current affairs.
Once all the issues have been considered the media release can be sent to all local and regional media platforms including Press, Radio and TV.
