Safer Essex Drug System Change Pilot
 Following a competitive selection process Essex has been awarded the Drug Systems Change Pilot from the Home Office Drug Strategy Unit. This achievement places us in a handful of partnerships (one of 7 in the Country) that will be leading the way nationally to develop a whole systems approach to substance misuse commissioning which is outlined in the above proposal.

Children & Young People's Needs Assessement Refresh 2008/2009
This needs assessment refresh which has been agreed by the Young People's Joint Commissioning Group has been developed and produced in response to the annual requirement by the National Treatment Agency (NTA). It aims to review the progress Essex has made against the Young People's Treatment Plan for 2008 - 2009 and to start to establish targets for the 2009 - 2010 Treatment Plan.
In addition to this, findings from Needs Assessment's or inspection reports from/by other organisations such as Youth Offending Service (YOS), IYS and Schools, Children & Families (SCF) and Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) (self audit) will be taken into account to ensure that any commonalities are linked to the subsequent Young People's Treatment Plan 2009 -2010.

Children and Young People's Drug & Alcohol Misuse Strategic Overview 2008/2009
It states in the reviewed 2008-2018 Drugs Strategy, Drugs: protecting families and communities, that while we continue to build on existing good practice there is a need to implement new interventions. The key themes are:
- Protecting communities through tackling drug supply, drug related crime and anti-social behaviour
- Preventing harm to children, young people and families affected by drug misuse
- Delivering new approaches to drug treatment and social re-integration
- Public information campaigns, communications and community engagement
